WHY MOSES GREW IN PHARAOH’S PALACE – A Lesson for Emergency and Over-ambitious Christian Politicians

There are many lessons embedded in the Holy bible for would-be politicians especially those who would be sincere and patient enough to learn. The Bible is also replete with several stories meant to guide the conduct of the human institution called politics and administration.

This is because from the onset, God has shown interest in human administration and governance. No wonder, He gave the first human constitution when He told Adam and Eve how to conduct themselves in the Garden of Eden. Not only did He give the constitution, He also backed it up with the recommended punishment in case of default.

Gen. 2:15 The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and care for it. 16 But the Lord God gave him this warning: “You may freely eat any fruit in the garden 17 except fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat of its fruit, you will surely die.”

In the life journey of the children of Israel in Egypt, God sought a deliverer for his people from the bondage imposed upon them by Pharaoh and his people.  One of the most bizarre things God did was to hide Moses in the Palace of Pharaoh for forty years!!! He hid a deliverer, inside the palace of the one whom He has designed for destruction.

Exod. 2:10 Later, when he was older, the child’s mother brought him back to the princess, who adopted him as her son. The princess named him Moses,* for she said, “I drew him out of the water.”

Moses stayed in that palace learning all the tricks of the Egyptians and became so accustomed to the arts, ways and culture of The Egyptians. No wonder, when God sent him to Pharaoh, he had easy access to the palace of Pharaoh because they recognized him to be a Prince of The land even after 40 years of exile.

Why Would God keep Moses in Pharaoh Palace of all places?

1. He considered safety. The palace was the safest place for Moses in the Land.

2. He needed to train him for the future leadership position he was to assume in the future.

3. He needed him to have access to the tricks of the enemy right under his nose.

4. He wanted a platform for him to express his mission clearly when the time comes.

This is a major lesson for all young and would be Christian Politicians who do not understand that leadership is a process. God does not believe in emergency leaders!!! He respects and prefers the process of training and gathering of experience to prepare them for the delicate process of leadership.

The last political experience in Nigeria (2019) saw many new breed Christian politicians jostling for offices one would consider they are not ready and prepared for. Many were not prepared to stay in the house of Pharaoh to get acquainted and receive the right platform to show them to the world. They were not ready to start from somewhere and gradually move to the appointed place of destiny.

They forgot that the vision is yet for an appointed time.

A friend of mine wanted to be Governor of one of the South Western States. He is not only qualified but highly cerebral and has the right stuff for governance, but he had no platform. He was advised to “stay under Pharaoh and learn” (Stay under some godfathers to gradually climb up) he refused and called all the godfathers all kinds of names. He said they were fetish and cheats etc.

God knew how fetish the Palace of Pharaoh was, yet he raised a Moses from there.

Our friend boasted that God had revealed to him in clear revelations that he is the next governor of the State. He was dissuaded and offered lesser positions such as The House of Representatives and Senate but he refused, saying he had no business with the “ungodly”

He was not ready to stay in the Palace of Pharaoh!

Eventually he joined one of the several new parties and floated his ambition. At the elections he could not gather up to 250 (two hundred and fifty) votes in a state that recorded over a million votes.

Egypt

Does that mean God didn’t want him to be a Governor?

No. I believe his calling was to be the Governor of The State. Like Moses, he was destined to lead his people to the Promised Land, but he hated the Palace of Pharaoh!

Every Moses must learn to patiently wait and stay under and in the House of Pharaoh to gather all that is needed to gather before stepping out. Consider Moses, his exit from the Palace of Pharaoh was even too sudden; he was in a hurry to fulfill the vision given to him by God. He wanted to be President of Israel before his time.

Exod. 2:11 Many years later, when Moses had grown up, he went out to visit his people, the Israelites, and he saw how hard they were forced to work. During his visit, he saw an Egyptian beating one of the Hebrew slaves. 12 After looking around to make sure no one was watching, Moses killed the Egyptian and buried him in the sand.

Unfortunately even the Jewish “voters” rejected him at the “polls”

Exod. 2:13 The next day, as Moses was out visiting his people again, he saw two Hebrew men fighting. “What are you doing, hitting your neighbor like that?” Moses said to the one in the wrong. 14 “Who do you think you are?” the man replied. “Who appointed you to be our prince and judge? Do you plan to kill me as you killed that Egyptian yesterday?”

That led to his emergency exile from the land and eventual forty years of sojourn in the wilderness learning leadership from tendering goats and sheep. If Moses had patiently waited in the palace of Pharaoh, he probably would have led the Israelites out of Egypt earlier than at the age of 80.

He was in a hurry just like many young Nigerian Christian politicians.

I was shocked at the plethora of young Christian Politicians who wanted to be President in 2019. I was amused. Some of them went all over Nigeria gathering millions of supporters on the social media. They were confident of winning the election…alas they were sorely disappointed…. Why?

They didn’t stay to learn the tricks from the palace of Pharaoh!

During the Gubernatorial elections of a South Western State of Nigeria, I was surprised at the large number Christians who insisted The Lord spoke to them that they are the next Governor of the State.

God spoke to over 20 of His Children, promising them the same office at the same time…habaa!!!

Even when Christian leaders under the aegis of CAN and PFN in that state met to persuade them to consider stepping down for one of them to emerge; they insisted the voice of the Lord must prevail. Christian leaders were frustrated! At the end of the elections, they all lost!!!

Does it mean that God lied? Never!!!

They simply do not understand that God didn’t just put Moses in the Palace of Pharaoh for the fun of it. They needed to understand that political leadership does not come by fiat!!!

Stay in the Palace of Pharaoh to learn!!!
